We are litmited on our winter watering options for livestock. We had tried a few different styles of stock tank and they are just too hard to keep from freezing up.

Monte came up with the idea that he shows in this video and it worked pretty well. Once the cows got used to how it worked, they lined up for a drink.

In November of 2019 we had some open cows so we decided to try a herd of "Fall Cows", as we are calling them. They calved from mid August through mid September. We rotated them through pastures close to the barns and let them do their thing. So far they have been pretty hands off which has been fantastic!

In Fall of 2019 we decided that we needed more indoor calving space. The old barn was not going to cut it to calve out 100+ head of cattle in February. We started the project by clearing an old pen and fence that was in the way. Then we had to remove an old pump house and dig in a new hydrant so we had water available inside the new building we planned to add.

We had enough done on it by February to be usable last calving season. We have since finished the bats on the outside. It has been a fantastic addition. We even use it for hay storage in the summer.
